When talking about the will, courage, transparency, good manner and objective leadership, you refer to the personality of Dr. Mohammad Sheib, the son of the south who had struggled in very difficult social and economic conditions to reach leading administrative positions, thus to prove that wealth does not make men but it's the will, courage and hard work that do so.
Dr. Sheib was born in Beirut; his father Abdel Al-Hassan sheib, an owner of a small shop; his mother Shafica sheib. Dr. Sheib is married to Mrs. Randa Al Ajouz, the daughter of Mr. Wafic Ajouz, the former senior official in the Middle East Airlines (MEA). His sons: Talal who possesses a BA in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut, and Maria who got her BS in Graphic Design from the Lebanese American University.
Dr. Sheib gained his elementary studies from "Hawd Al Wilaya" public school in Beirut, after which he transferred to "Al Ashrafiah School for Boys" to continue his intermediary studies. He got his secondary certificate from "Tareek Al Jadida" public school.
He entered the Lebanese College for Law then he transferred to study and get his license in the Political and Economic Studies. His ambitions pushed him to continue his higher education and get a Diploma from the University of Saint Joseph, then his PhD in Money and Banking Studies from University of Aix-Marseille in France.
Dr. Sheib had entered the work place early and he assembled both the Academic work and the banking career. He worked while continuing his university studies in the banking sector as he started in Banque Libano-Commerce (BLC) in 1959. In 1963, the date of establishing the Public Credit Bank, Dr. Sheib became the head of a division in this bank and he was promoted to attain the position of the Manager of the headquarters that was located in Riad Al-Solh region.
In 1980, and after closing the headquarters the Public Credit Bank due to the civil war, Dr. Scheib went to Bank of Beirut. In 1986, and while he was working as an Assistant General Manager in Bank of Beirut in Gevinor, Dr.Sheib was offered the vacancy of a General Manager in FRANSABANK,Zair/Africa Branch where he worked till 1991 when he came back to Beirut after the break-out of security problems there. He then signed a contract with Bank of Kuwait and the Arab World as a General Manager and a Board member.
Since 2001, Dr. Scheib has been nominated the President of the Board of "Entra for Investment" Company.
Dr. Scheib had accepted his responsibilities in "Entra" company in a very difficult circumstances, when the company was suffering from great financial debts and losses threatening its exis-tence. However, Dr. Scheib succeeded in implementing a reform leading strategy that was able to get rid of the debts and losses and transfer the company from a losing one to a profitable one.
Despite his success in the banking and institutional work, teaching was the center of Dr.Sheib’s life it was a desire and passion away from any materialistic aim, with the ultimate objective of having the education,the science and the certificate for the students before anything else.
Moreover, Dr. sheib possesses several valuable economic studies and articles as well as presentations on various economic topics. He also supervised several research projects in the Lebanese University, Saint Esprit University,Islamic University and University of Damascus.
HE HAS FILLED SEVERAL VACANCIES DURING HIS CAREER PATH THAT STARTED IN 1959 OF WHICH:
General Manager of Bank of Kuwait and the Arab World (from February 1992 till 31 October 2001).
Member in the Beirut Bourse Committee and President of the Disciplinary Board (1994-1999).
Member in the Board of Directors of the Public Institution for Ensuring Investment
Member in the Research Committee of the Association of the Lebanese Banks.
Member in the curators board and the Treasurer of the Lebanese Center for Arbitration.
Member in the Board of Directors and General Manager of FRANSABANK-Zair (1988-1992).
Member in the Parliamentary Committee of the Common Arab Market (Economic Consultant).
Mohammad Sheib represents in brief the ambitions of the Lebanese youth. He lived and strived in a difficult economic environment until he attained the highest degrees of success, so he deserved to be one of the "elite" leaders of institutions.
